Hardeep & Monica
Hardeep or DJ H as he is known to most people, was insistent that he didn’t want his wedding to be a glitzy celebrity affair! It was to be a personal, family event celebrated with those closest to himself and Monica.
And so this wonderful journey began for this bride and groom as they planned their stunning valentines wedding.
As is so often the case with our clients, we had been highly recommended to Hardeep and Monica by our previous clients.
In 2012 we had filmed the wedding of Hardeep’s cousin Indy to Ina and in 2013 had filmed Krishma & Jas Johal’s wedding and were also asked to capture Hardeep’s sister Sarah’s wedding to Mandeep later that same year.
Obviously in that time we had got to know the Kataria family and the guys at Kudos pretty well. We knew that the wedding would be classy and sophisticated but it would also be full of fun with a vibrancy and real energy in those attending.
One of the most important things for a Sikh Groom on the day of his wedding is his turban. For many Sikhs their wedding day is the only time they will grow their beard and wear a turban. We feel that to capture this sets the tone for the full feature film and complements a bride getting ready well in the edit.
As is so often the case though it means a very early start! In this case it was a pre 5am start time but it was worth it to capture those precious moments.
H had commissioned NINE clothing from Delhi to design his outfits and had his turban tied to by perfection by Vikki from Tie My Turban. Must say he truly looked princely.
H’s closest friends and family all had royal blue turbans tied and thirty guys dancing on the arrival of the Barat at Guru Panth Parkash Gurdwara, Leicester was a sight to behold!
Kudos Cars provided a fitting entourage with Rolls Royce Phantoms, Rolls Royce Ghosts and a Bentley Mulsanne. When at the Gurdwara the weather, albeit a bit blustery, held out for everyone to fully enjoy the 20 piece Band Baja supplied by Band Baja UK.
Hardeep mounted a white wedding horse and rode into his wedding in true Maharaja style!
Of course as all Groom’s on the day of their wedding, Hardeep hadn’t seen Monica yet and it was a lovely moment as he and the entire congregation looked in awe as she entered the main hall in a gorgeous pink and antique gold wedding lengha.
The most important part of the day awaited Hardeep and Monica as they took their vows in front of the Guru Granth Sahib in a traditional and timeless Sikh wedding ceremony.
Once the wedding ceremony was completed and everyone had given their Shagan’s we only had about 10 minutes with the bride and groom to get some shots before they left for the wedding reception at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham NEC!
The key to achieving results in such a fast paced environment is to plan beforehand for what you want to achieve. We had planned to use a new technique of lens whacking to allow light into the camera to produce natural lens flare. It worked beautifully and gave us some outstanding results.
We also had a second camera giving us some lovely glidetrack shots of our bride and groom whilst working alongside East West Photography so they could also get what they needed.
On arriving at the Hilton and entering the Monarch Suite it truly took our breath away. The room looked out of this world and it was plain to see that all the hard work and months of planning by Zibby at Dream Occasions, Arjun and the team at Madhus and especially all at Kudos had all been worth it.
They say the devil is in the detail and touches like a seating plan with personalised menu cards make such a big difference especially when your guests on the day are the some of the leading figures in Asian Weddings!
Guests were seated by the very charismatic and gracious Andy Bignold Toastmaster with Madhus catering setting about taking individual orders for starters.
A huge mention must go to Mark Kenyon of Strictly Come Dancing fame who was controlling the full lighting and rigging team on the day with lighting suspended from above and a mixture of beam lighting, wash lighting, and gobo effect making up the 160 fixtures installed.
The wedding cake was designed, baked and florally arranged exclusively by the uber talented Krishma Maya Mandalia (also a previous Film AM client!) and was set within a beautiful white dancefloor which had been etched with Hardeep & Monica’s wedding logo.
With a circular LED bar supplied by Mobile Bar Hire set just opposite the dancefloor, guests were able to enjoy a drink without having to miss out on all the action.
As always Kudos are one step ahead when making sure a party is planned to perfection.
Chris Williams performed saxophone and with rapturous applause the doors flung open to welcome the stunning couple as they took their steps into the dream wedding reception they had been planning for so long.
Hardeep and Monica then proceeded to take their seats on an elegant stage designed by Zibby and the team at Dream Occasions whilst everyone was treated to an excellent speech by Hardeep’s best man and brother Rajan. It was heartfelt, funny, emotional and a fitting tribute from one brother to another and it felt right for some of those words to start this wedding trailer.
Rajeev B had been specifically selected by H to do the honours and he took to the decks in his formidable and inspiring style.
We had also brought another awesome piece of equipment to the wedding reception called a MOVI M10 Freefly system and were so excited to get it in and around the dancefloor.
We had planned beforehand exactly how we wanted to capture the first dance and all knew each other’s positions. The MOVI produced some outstanding results and it is definitely something we look forward to suing again.
We all know that Kudos are experts in wedding entertainment and theming and we were honoured when Hardeep and Monica chose Film AM Weddings to capture their special events.
It is always nice when a client books you after seeing your full work for we feel that above all else is how to judge a true film production company.
It is so often the case that our clients will look at our trailers and want to book. Anyone that books Film AM will know just how much time we spend thinking about a clients full film and how we get our clients thinking about this too.
So it was even more humbling when Hardeep and Monica booked after watching and enjoying the full films Indy and Ina, Krishma and Jas Johal as well as Hardeep’s sister Sarah and Mandeep’s wedding.
We were booked due to our ability to adapt the way we shoot events depending on our individual clients request and wishes.
We have seen first-hand the meteoric rise from all those at Kudos. This has come through hard work and the dedication they show their craft and the innovative approach taken.
We too feel we share this vision of wanting to be the leasers of what we do and constantly innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible.
We hope you enjoy this latest short film from a day we’ll never forget.
